This is an intermediate course (Level 2) aimed at contributing to the Design and Technology curriculum, across all age ranges.


How to embed sustainable thinking and practice at the core of teaching and learning within design and technology.

Who is it for?

Teachers and trainee teachers of Design and Technology in England.

How will I benefit?

The course is designed to explore teachers’ own values around sustainability and consider how their department can function better in accordance with the Sustainable Development Goals.

You will learn how to:

  • Promote better understanding of the environmental, social and cultural impact of a range of products by embedding life-cycle analysis
  • Encourage students to practice independent, critical enquiry, plus risk taking and problem solving in their designing and making activities
  • Work with colleagues to develop ideas and plan how you will implement the strategies and activities explored on the course back at school.

Time commitment

Six hours, plus implementation time.


It is also available in the form of a six hour, one day face to face course. Participants will agree to implement the design challenge and feedback through a group webinar. Experiences will be shared, and questions answered in a supportive environment.
